Constructing a Custom Net Zero Greenhouse (24x60)

Excavation

Here we are excavating to prepare for pouring the foundation.

Pouring Foundation

The concrete foundation is now drying here.

Insulation & GeoAir

We insulated the foundation and installed GeoAir pipes.

GeoAir Pipes

The GeoAir pipes go from the greenhouse out to the field.

GeoAir Pipes to Heat Grow Beds

These pipes will lay under the grow beds to provide heat.

Gravel & Walkway Added

We added gravel for thermal mass and drainage. We also built the entrance down to the greenhouse.

Framing

The 24' wide trusses are placed every 4'. This greenhouse is 60' long.

Passive Solar Heat Bank

Water barrels store solar heat during the day and radiate warmth at night, functioning as a heat bank.

Workbenches & Grow Beds

The workbenches will be used for growing starters.

GeoAir to Cold Storage

Pipes bring cool ground air to the cold storage room, maintaining a temperature 15°F lower than the rest of the greenhouse.

Finishing the Roof

We used leftover cedar shingles from another project to finish the north side of the roof.

Finishing the West Wall

Here we are finishing the west wall and preparing to paint it.

Adding 3-Wall Polycarbonate

We used 3-wall polycarbonate because it provides great insulation. We also installed automatic vent openers along the top of the roof to increase airflow.
